How to Keep Your Residence Safe and Protected

No matter how sophisticated a security system is, sometimes you still think about the way the intruders break in such soundless way without breaking anything. Perhaps you know the incidents in your neighbors’ or friends’ home. The intruders have very high skilled and this can make many people worry. So, you need to think and learn the ways the intruders have in their mind. Usually, they take advantage of weak points in home security and make the most of their efforts. In your home, there may be a security system, but there are some simple precautions steps to take before the burglars even think about intruding at your houses.

The easiest way to keep the intruders away is making your residence clean and bright. This includes trimming trees and shrubs and put proper light at your veranda. High-pressure sodium and compact fluorescent lamps are the best choices. Well, those advices might seem obvious. But there are some other effective ways, especially when you have to leave your house for days or even weeks. Always make your home appear occupied every time you are leaving for example you can let the lights and the sound of radio playing. One thing you should remember is that you are not supposed to put keys under doormats.

Give more attention to the locks. If your door happens to be locked by inexpensive key-in-knob type locks, change it immediately because it tends to be easily unlocked by a credit card or screwdriver. Single cylinder, thumb-latch dead-bolt lock is strongly recommended for your home’s best security. Do not forget to keep your windows safe by giving special key locks for double-hung windows. These sorts of locks need keys and cause a hazard when it is broken. Another spot in which burglars tend to break is basement windows. To make it secure, put glass block on it. Or you may set up flat steel bars six inches apart and anchor the bars to the interior window frame with carriage bolts or the longest screws possible. Yet, you still have to think about the need for emergency exits and fire codes.
